The education ministry has suspended Principal of Rangpur Carmichael College Prof SM Mokchhed Ali on allegations of violating the Copyright Act 2000.
He was accused of copying from the book of Sunil Kumar Golder, a retired physics professor of BL College in Khulna, and publishing the content in his physics book.
Prof Sunil filed a case against Prof Ali with Khulna Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court nearly two years ago on November 13, 2011.
Talking to The Daily Star yesterday, Education Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said Prof Ali had been suspended recently following official procedures, which took a while. The case is under trial now, he added.
The accused may get fired if the allegations are proved against him, said the ministry sources.
Prof Ali said he was yet to receive the suspension order.
